After 3 days of hiking we made it to El Mirador. Essentially, it is still a city in ruins since the pyramids have not been restored to the images of their former selves. But it was amazing after days with no real idea of where we were, to climb to the top of a pyramid and find ourselves standing in the middle of nowhere, jungle in all directions as far as you can see, amidst the remains of what once was an amazing city. |

Plus, we got to go inside the pyramids, which was really cool (cant do that at Tikal, thats for sure!) |

One of my favorite things was all of the amazing trees that have grown out of the ruins |

Then we realized that we had to hike back out. Needless to say, everyone was a little tired and very ready to be out of the jungle |

We tried to keep our spirits high, like laughing when our boots filled to the brim with swamp water, but I think that the picture to the right is a pretty good example of just how NOT happy I was feeling (by the way, I pretty much think that this is the funniest picture of me of all time. Sexy!) |

I have decided that one of the best things about hiking in the jungle is just how much better everything else is when you finally get out!!! |
