El Mirador
After resting in antigua for about a week, Keeli and I got persuaded to head up to Northern Guatemala and venture out on a 5 day jungle hike to the El Mirador Ruins.  We met up with Andrew and Mike and headed out.  After the first 2 days, which included walking through mud and swamp and water up to our wastes, mosquitos and sand flies eating us alive, and another hurrican looming overhead, I can honestly say that I cracked.  But after a few tears, in the end, it was all just ¨parte de la adventura!¨ Plus, having good company and lots candy didnt hurt either!!
Its awesome that in one hour we could go from being all happy and clean in the above photo to not even being able to fake a smile in the photo on the right.  (No comments on the headband please!)
Braving the Elements!!! There were also tarantulas and snakes, but I ran away from those things way to fast to take photos! By the way, walking directly into one of the spiders below (like we all did at least once) is really not all that much fun
And then there was that whole fording the river thing.
We ended up getting stranded for an extra day, either because the river was "too high to ford" when we first got there, or because they ripped us off and made us pay for another night, either way, at least camp was fun
